About

Vilnius Palace of Concerts and Sports – one of the most famous buildings of Vilnius – will open its doors during our festival.

In 1971, the construction of the Palace completed the building complex on the right shore of river Neris. Having been built nearby Žalgiris Stadium and indoor and open-air swimming pools, Vilnius Palace of Concerts and Sports become the focus not only of this building complex but of the entire city. The main detail of the Palace is its curved roof structure, which is considered to be an invention. It is like a wave, aiming at Gediminas Hill; its unique construction stood out from the other typical projects of that time. The building‘s dynamic silhouette, the combinations of reinforced concrete and glass are reflections of the modern architectural spirit of the 1960s and 70s. The interior of the building is nonetheless impressive: there are huge wooden panels that are built into the wall. The main hall untraditionally harmonises white painted wood and reinforced concrete.

Vilnius Palace of Concerts and Sports is one of the most outstanding architectural pieces in Vilnius. It is a building, easily recognisable in Lithuania and beyond, and has become a symbol of the panorama of the city.
