ARCHITECT - Vytautas Edmundas Čekanauskas, ing. Romualdas Jakas - 1967. RECONSTRUCTION ARCHITECT - Valdas Ozarinskas.

About

The Exhibition Hall, which was designed in the heart of Vilnius Old Town during Soviet times, currently accommodates the biggest Contemporary Art Centre in the Baltic States. This modern open plan art centre has held numerous exhibitions showing the newest contemporary artwork by Lithuanian and foreign artists.

The architect Čekanauskas noticed the following about this notable building: “At the time, the Exhibition Hall was designed in a very uncommon architectural form. People were disturbed by its wide window openings and sunken passageway.”

The form of the building follows the outline of the corner of Vokieciu Street, while the volume of the building is divided making it visually lighter and letting natural light into the interior spaces. The Contemporary Art Centre is considered to be a great example of modern Lithuanian architecture, due to its careful and unique consideration of its surroundings.
