8. Freedom to Creation

About

At the turn of the 20th century, when creating buildings for cultural purposes, there was a tendency to look back for inspiration in preceding architectural styles. The grandeur of those styles served to be a prophecy that the arts and culture would take an increasingly important position in public life. The 20th century saw the restoration of the Old Town’s cultural buildings, which offered an opportunity for architects to invigorate the Old Town with new architectural ideas, yet retain its historical architectural heritage.

This tour will reveal the balancing between the past and future ideas that the architects were challenged by, which can still be observed even in the newest 21st century projects.

Tours will be guided in Lithuanian.
