Konarskio st. 49 is the address where the entire history of Lithuanian television and much of that of the national radio took place. The complex is made up of buildings constructed in different periods, which grew and developed alongside technological developments in Lithuania.
The old wing, built according to a repetitive design, the upper part of the building set back from the street, and the deeper three-storey wings look modest, but their purpose and their influence on culture and history are exceptional. In 1956, a television tower was built next to the headquarters, making it the tallest building in Lithuania. The height of the tower, including the antenna, was 192 m. The building was able to boast the title of tallest building in Lithuania until 1981, when a new TV tower was erected in Karoliniškės.
This complex of buildings is not a museum, but rather a textbook of Lithuanian Radio and Television, where decades-old equipment and the most modern robotic studio in the Baltic States are still preserved. The building also commemorates the events of 13 January, as evidenced by the bullet holes in the ceiling. Today, authentic radio concert halls, modern radio and TV studios, editing rooms and scenery warehouses can be viewed in this location. It is a complex of buildings making technical history, while history makes it.
