A building with a memorial plaque on K. Kalinausko Street reminds us that the artist Kazimieras Leonardas Žoromskis lived and worked here from 1995 to 2004.

The annex, designed by the architectural duo Saulius Šarkinas and Leonidas Merkinas, was completed in 1995. The new volume of the building was erected on the foundations of the official representative palace that stood here in 1895. The postmodern architecture was also combined with the adjacent 19th-century neo-Gothic building, the guard’s house, which is the only surviving part of the former magnificent villa ensemble. Here, the authors’ mastery of creating a new urban villa in an existing park becomes apparent.

The interior is dominated by white walls with straight and curved lines. The artist liked to paint in natural light, so the huge 30-degree sloping window in the artist’s studio was a sophisticated technological solution for the time. Not only is the building elegant in its neo-Gothic and postmodern architecture, but the spaces have been designed to be suitable for the exhibition of Žoromskis’ works in the Op Art (optical impressionism) style.
