The State Data Agency building brings together several architectural styles – modernism and classicism – that merge seamlessly within its interior.
The building at Gedimino Avenue 29 was constructed in the early 20th century and was considered one of the two tallest rental buildings in Vilnius at the time. Gedimino Avenue 31, on the other hand, is a computing centre added in the 1970s – a true expression of modernism. Although these two buildings are entirely different, their contrast creates a harmonious composition of symmetrical vertical façades.
In the courtyard, within a projecting risalit tower, there is an authentic Neo-Gothic marble staircase that continues to attract filmmakers and advertisers. Inside, a striking spiral staircase is decorated with white marble and covered by Gothic vaults. At its centre stands an original lift of historic construction, evoking the atmosphere of 1914, when nobles, hotel guests, and bank clients once passed through these spaces. The interiors are further enriched by distinctive stained glass works made of slab glass by Steponas Kazimieraitis.
Over more than a century, the building has changed its function multiple times. It has housed a hotel, a branch of the Polish Cooperative Bank, and the headquarters of the Lithuanian Activist Front, before eventually becoming the seat of the State Data Agency.
