The home of sculptor Vladas Vildžiūnas and his wife, graphic artist Marija Ladigaitė-Vildžiūnienė, was famous during the Soviet era as a meeting place for interesting people. It was a place to share ideas and knowledge from the free world, and news of art and culture, as well as to create sculptures.
In order to ensure the continuity of these works, the construction of the Vladas Vildžiūnas Gallery, a building of exceptional architecture in a post-modern style, was started in 1991. It is the result of a shared vision between architects and sculptors.
Next to the gallery, surrounded by nature, is a sculpture garden which is the first contemporary Lithuanian sculpture park in Vilnius. The sculpture garden currently has more than 50 works on display, with a special collection of modernist sculptures. In a setting that blends in with the green landscape of the Vilnius surroundings, the exhibition features works by classic sculptors (many of whom have been awarded the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts) as well as younger sculptors. Among them are works by Vladas Vildžiūnas, Teodoro Kazimieras Valaitis, Andrzej Strumiłło, Goichi Syoho Kitagawa, Vladas Urbanavičius, Mindaugas Navakas, Petras Mazūras, Ksenija Jaroševaitė, Kunotas Vildžiūnas, Algis Lankelis, Algirdas Kuzma, and Gediminas Akstinas.
Architecture, sculpture and nature are present here in one tranquil rhythm, inviting visitors to take a break from the bustle of the city and immerse themselves in the world of art.
