One of Vilnius’s most mysterious churches – St. Stephen’s Church – long “locked away” behind fences and sheds, is today revealing its full beauty within the new Stepono Sodas (“Stephen’s Garden”) quarter.
Situated at the junction of the Old Town and New Town, this distinctive low-rise residential complex stands out for its modern architectural solutions while sensitively preserving the spirit of the historical heritage. The team at DO ARCHITECTS is transforming the former industrial site into a multifunctional space that not only honors the history of the Marian monastery once located here but also offers residents the privilege of enjoying a unique view from their windows.
Walking through Stepono Sodas also brings to mind one of Lithuania’s most renowned architects of all time – Laurynas Gucevičius – who is believed to be buried next to St. Stephen’s Church. This project likewise contributes to significant urban transformations within the city.
