ESTONIAN EMBASSY

Authors

ARCHITEKTAI – „3+1 architects“, Markus Kaasik, Andres Ojari, Ilmar Valdur, 1998 m.

About

This is the first Estonian embassy built after the restoration of the country’s independence, and the first building specially designed for an embassy in Vilnius;
The competition for the construction was won by a group of very young architects at the time, only 26 years old;
In 1998, this building was exceptional for its modern, calm Scandinavian style – at that time, Lithuanian architecture was still dominated by postmodernism and an abundance of details;
The building has the first frameless glass facade in the Baltic States, attached directly to the building structures;
A gray-blue limestone is used for the facade from the street and is one of the traditional Estonian building materials. The chosen blue color reflects Estonian identity and blue cornflower fields;
The 16.5-meter-high building accommodates 9 levels.
