The Vilnius Jesuit Monastery ensemble is a complex of buildings with a long history, which includes the Educational Media Centre Lojoteka.

The Jesuits were invited to Lithuania in 1569 by the Bishop of Vilnius, Valerijonas Protasevičius. The Church of St. Casimir, the Jesuit Monastery and the Vilnius Jesuit Gymnasium, which was restored in 1995, make up the building ensemble of the Vilnius Jesuit Monastery. In 2020, this ensemble was complemented by the modern Lojoteka building, which was built on the site of an outbuilding, a two-storey carriage house. The building’s architectural design echoes its silhouette in a modern way, with exceptional views of the top of the Church of St. Casimir and the old buildings of the monastery, while the skylights create an immediate connection with history and the contemporary environment.

The Lojoteka is a space where the walls of the old Jesuit monastery fit perfectly with the innovative idea of an educational media centre. The centre has a modern cinema hall with remnants of a 16th-century precious metal casting furnace, as well as video and sound recording studios that meet the highest technological standards.

With unconventional architectural and modern means, this building breaks all stereotypes of being “just a boring library”.
