About

• Hales Market could be said to have been built under a lucky star – the building barely suffered during the two World Wars, and during its 115 years, it almost did not change its original appearance and purpose;

• Architect V. Michnevičius designed around 30 churches, and is also the co-author of the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theater, the Montvila Colony, and the Mosque in Kaunas;

• The brightest accent of the building are metal constructions, and is the only construction example of its kind in the 20th century in Lithuania;

• In 1906, after the construction of Hales Market in Vilnius, a general order and rules were introduced to change the “behavior of the gossiping hags of the market”;

• During the tour, you can see what the historical connection between the historic market and the new annex (buildings of two significant periods) looks like, and feel how the new parts of the building seem to pay homage to the old ones;

• We will invite you to visit the usually not accessible balcony, which offers an overview of the entire Hales Market.
