In 2016, one of the most modern museums in Lithuania and the region opened its doors – The Center for Civil Education, located in the complex of the President of the Republic of Lithuania.
The building was originally constructed as a presidential residence, but after much deliberation, it was decided to change its function to an educational one. This task was entrusted to the young and talented architectural bureau “Processoffice”.
During the reconstruction, most of the building’s original structure was preserved, but at the same time, bright, minimalist interior spaces were opened up, which are also adapted for an interactive exhibition. In addition, deeply hidden architectural layers were preserved, reminiscent of the buildings that previously existed in this site – in one of the walls of the building, an authentic fragment of a carriage wall is still embedded.
Interestingly, the content and implementation of the exhibition were created by the same architectural bureau, using a large team of experts and professionals from various fields.
In 2016, the architectural bureau received an award for the best public interior designed for the Center for Civil Education, as the design is masterfully used as a tool to simply explain complex processes of state governance and operation.
