Prosecutor’s House for the Republic of Lithuania

The black cube, in the background of gray apartment buildings, dictates its own rules of engagement and stands out from its surroundings with its bold architectural character. The building, covered in black granite slabs, conveys an image of order, permanence, and solidity.

Its ground floor, covered in transparent glass panels, seems to lift the black cube off the ground, making its heavy form appear to hover. The color black embodies the solidity necessary to emphasize the institution’s prestige.

“The slanted windows add dynamics to the building’s form: the static composition visually moves. This symbolizes the energetic and dynamic character of the prosecutor’s office and the nature of its activities”, the building’s architect Kęstutis Lupeikis said.

The offices are arranged around the entire perimeter, while a space formed in the middle connects all floors of the building and allows natural daylight to enter the depth of the building. The main focal points of this space become two “suspended” meeting rooms – the “soul” and “heart” of the building.

Expressive architecture of the building reflects the beginning of a new era and demonstrates the architect’s professionalism in creating architecture where every detail is justified and have multiple symbolic meanings.
