Former ISM University of Management and Economics

About

The ornate gates of the Basilian monastery ensemble greet everyone ascending Aušros Vartų Street. Passing through these impressive late Baroque gates, one enters the Basilian monastery ensemble, which, after a major fire, was reconstructed in 1761 according to the project of architect Jonas Kristupas Glaubicas.

In the 14th century, a wooden church of the Holy Trinity and a monastery stood here, which were replaced by brick buildings. Later, the Basilians moved to this place.

The Basilian monastery for men changed its purpose several times during its existence. It housed a prison where the poet Adomas Mickevičius and participants of the 1831 uprising were imprisoned. Later, the Lithuanian Spiritual Seminary operated in this building, and for more than 40 years – the Vilnius Tech Faculty of Electronics. Since 2007, ISM University of Management and Economics has been operating here. In 2014, the ISM Innovation Base opened its doors in the former stables/carriage house (Arklių St.).

The entire architectural ensemble is diverse, including objects from different periods. And in one of them, you can even see a fragment of the Vilnius city wall.
