Former Lithuanian Railways Administrative Building

In the early 20th century, a colossal Neoclassical building arose on one of the highest hills near the Old Town, in a newly developed area. Named the first skyscraper in Vilnius, this seven-story structure was truly exceptional for its time and considered a unique urban solution, integrated into the cityscape of Pohulianka (now J. Basanavičius) Street.

Due to its impressive scale, this building continues to be viewed in different opinions, but it undoubtedly reflects the spirit of the historicism era, which permeates the entire New Town district.

Originally built for the Polesie Railway Administration, next to a narrow-gauge passenger railway line, the building served the railway administration until the year of 2020.

While the exterior is familiar to many, the building also has much to offer on the inside, not to mention the breathtaking panoramas of the Old Town that open up from new and unusual perspectives. For its time, the early 20th-century building was very modern, as it even had two telephone lines and an elevator.

This exceptional building continues to represent the first skyscraper in Vilnius and at the same time holds the secrets of the building and the surrounding neighborhood.
