This palace has been designed, redesigned, and renovated by six architects. Once home to merchants, counts, and princes, and a gathering place for the intelligence and bohemian society, the palace now serves as a sanctuary for writers seeking inspiration.

Inspiration can also be come from the authentic interior of the palace, one of the most beautiful and impressive surviving Neo-Baroque interiors in Lithuania. Dating back to the 19th century, it’s neither too old nor too new but with a rich and colorful history. Having undergone numerous restoration, rescued from critical conditions and accidents, the palace now proudly serves as a haven for writers.

The unique stucco moldings on the stoves, the intricate ceiling reliefs, the exquisite wrought iron details, the tapestries, and the varied wood paneling and carvings amaze visitors. Nijole Lukšionytė-Tolvaišienė believes that the unparalleled wrought iron chandeliers and stair railings in the vestibule were specially commissioned by the palace’s former owner, making them truly exceptional and unique interior elements. One of the most striking and iconic features of the building is the grand staircase in the first-floor hall.
