This complex is one of the most contextual examples of late modernism in Vilnius. Architect Justinas Šeibokas, skillfully and somewhat adventurously using common local materials, managed to “insert” particularly modern at the time the Ministry of Communications complex next to the Radvilos Palace.

Now, one of the buildings houses the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania. Other buildings in the complex – the Central Automatic City Telephone Exchange and the Communications Department – are currently adapted for commercial and administrative purposes.

The buildings with their form replicate the old town possessions, creating an internal, semi-open courtyard, towards which flows from Vilnius and Palanga streets. All the buildings in the complex functioned as organs of a single, larger body.

The Ministry of Health building is slightly elevated above street level, and the large building of the central automatic city telephone exchange is pushed deeper into the plot – thus maintaining the human scale of the old town in the street layout.

Like most interiors of Justinas Šeibokas, this one, during its heyday, was characterized by the dynamism created by light falling through skylights down through several floors.
